Cuba

After touching down from Cuba after a week of amazing culture, food and people, I can finally let out all that I learnt in this untouched island.

Cuba has a intrinsic history. It has gone through a number of monumental battles, to finally gain independence after the Cuban Revolution creating it into a socialist state. This essentially means everyone is equal and able to access the same amenities such as free health care and education. Pictures and graffiti cover the walls of Che Guevara, the poster boy of the Revolution. By the end of the trip, I was as enamoured with him as the Cubans!

Due to the US embargo began in the 60s, Cuba is held still in history. Vintage Chevrolets and Cadillacs roll down the streets, with horses and carriages in the opposing lane. It truly is a sight that you can only see in the streets of Havana.

We stayed in Varadero, the beach resort part of Cuba. The beaches were beautiful, with clear blue waters and white sand. It is truly an untouched part of Cuba, which clearly still shows it is yet to be truly discovered. Who knows what will happen in the next 10 years for this growing island?

Although Cuba is slighted with poverty, it holds a enormous energy with children running in the street smiling and music pouring out of every cafe and restaurant. It's spirit is really something I wish I could take back in my suitcase.

Cuba isn't just about cigars and rum (although those are brilliant), it's about powerful history on every street corner, beautiful untouched houses and colourful apartments, stunning beaches and strong people.

Cuba is most certainly on the way up. Viva Cuba Libre!
